The defender turned down Barça to join the Italian side in 2019

Matthijs de Ligt was one of the big names of the 2019 summer transfer window. The Dutch defender, playing for Ajax at the time, was wanted across Europe but ended up signing for Juventus. Barcelona fought until the end but didn't manage to sign the youngster, but he now regrets his decision.

According to Esport3, De Ligt is not happy at Juve and is contemplating a change of scenery this summer. The option that would interest him the most is Barça, although he knows it's unlikely. Barça don't hide the fact that De Ligt's profile fits their needs and they would try to bring him in if it was a realistic option.

The most viable route is through a player exchange. Barça and Juve have a good relationship and have done similar things in the past. Just last summer, without going nay further, they swapped Arthur and Pjanic. However, it's a long shot and De Ligt's still a long way from a reunion with his friend Frenkie De Jong.
