De Jong: I would like De Ligt to come to Barça but it's not up to me

The Dutch midfielder was presented as a Barcelona player on Friday

New Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong said during his presentation on Friday that he would like compatriot Matthijs de Ligt to join him at the Catalan club, although he suggested he doesn't know what will happen.

"I was expecting this question," De Jong said. "Of course I would be happy to see [De Ligt] but it's not up to me, he has to make the decision with his family and his agent. We will see where he goes.”

De Jong and De Ligt were two of the stars of Ajax's run to the Champions League semifinal and are also regulars with the Dutch national team already.

They are good friends, but at the moment it seems more likely that De Ligt will leave Ajax for Juve, who are prepared to offer him a bigger salary.
