Dani Alves says 'an independent Catalonia would be a mistake'

The Brazil international thinks Spain and Catalonia are better off together

Dani Alves' wide-ranging interview with ABC covers his departure from Barcelona and his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as a number of other topics.

The Juventus player also has time to talk about the independence movement in Catalonia, the region of Spain where he spent eight years of his career as a Barça player.

Alves believes that the movement "disregards the rest of Spain. That's how I've felt during my time living in Catalonia."

For the former Barça man, during recent years the Catalan people have "closed themselves off, but it shouldn't be like that" because they receive people from Spain with affection, although sometimes with "mistrust and suspicion."

He doesn't believe it's a positive and adds: "There are people that go to the independence marches, but the don't even know what independence is. They follow the trend, follow the masses..."

The right-back would seek a resolution "through dialogue and consensus," because he believes that Spain and Catalonia "are stronger together -- an independent Catalonia would be a mistake."
