Dani Alves' message of support for Leo Messi after Brazil beat Argentina

Alves says Messi is still the best in the world despite his ups and downs with his national side

Dani Alves wanted to send a message of support to his ex-teammate and friend Leo Messi after the tough defeat Argentina suffered against Brazil. With a photo in which the two are embracing before the game on Thursday, the Juventus defender wrote: “Always a pleasure to see you, friend. I always wish you the best, you’re the best of all time.”

It’s that Messi continued to have a tough time with his national team, who must now win four of their next seven games if they want to qualify for the World Cup in Russia in 2018. The Barcelona star was OK against Brazil, but he was too isolated in a side which lacked creativity and lost their way after Philippe Coutinho’s stunning opener

Criticism has rained down on Messi and the Argentina players since the game, with some even calling for the 29-year-old’s departure from the team, while calling other members of the squad failures. That has nothing to do with the euphoric atmosphere in Brazil. For that reason, Alves was keen to send a message to Messi on Instagram.
