Dani Alves and Barça set for 'definitive' meeting over Brazilian's future

The former Barcelona right-back could return to the club now Xavi is in charge

Dani Alves' immediate future could be back in Barcelona... as a player. Speculation first emerged over a month ago but nothing has been reported more recently. The club initially ruled out the option, although the Italian journalist Nicolò Schira says they are re-considering re-signing the Brazilian.

Schira assured that conversations between the two parties are ongoing and that there will be a definitive meeting in the coming days to decide whether Alves returns to Camp Nou. The arrival of Xavi Hernandez as coach could be a factor that plays into Alves' favour.

Both the Barça president, Joan Laporta, and Xavi are evaluating the role Alves could have. It would primarily be to serve as a leader and reference to the youngsters, as his profile converts him into an authoritative and experienced voice for the young talent coming through at the club. His winning mentality would be welcome in that sense.

Alves would love to end his career at Barça, where he was hugely successful in his first spell at the club, and cement his place in the Brazil squad for the World Cup in 2022.
