A lot of the talk before the Nations League final between Portugal and Holland was the individual battle between Cristiano Ronaldo and Matthijs de Ligt. And after the game, the two had another brief conversation out on the pitch.
"At the end of the match, Cristiano told me: 'Join me at Juventus. At first I didn't understand him and it surprised me a little. I was in shock. That's why I laughed but I didn't say anything." De Ligt revealed the conversation on Dutch TV. Once again, he was asked about his future. "My decision isn't important now. The market opens in a few days and I want to go on holiday and make a decision with a cool head."
With those words, De Ligt's future continues to be the source of many rumours. The 19-year-old Ajax captain is one of the most sought after players in the summer transfer market with Barça, PSG and Juventus all after his signature. The defender is ready to move on but wants to make sure he picks the correct option.
