Chelsea burst onto the scene for Frenkie de Jong
The English side have been linked to the Dutchman by The Guardian and might rival United for him
Manchester United have a competitor for Frenkie de Jong. Although the Red Devils seemed like they would be the only ones in for Barcelona’s Dutch midfielder, The Guardian say Chelsea are also following the operation.
They say that the Blues may mount their own offensive for De Jong and are a more attractive proposition for him, given they are in the Champions League next season. Erik ten Hag’s men are only in the Europa League.
Chelsea have followed him since he was at Ajax, before he signed for Barcelona in 2019. The main job at Stamford Bridge, though, is to strengthen the defence and the attack, after the departures of Rudiger, Christensen, Lukaku and likely Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.
They have been linked with De Liga, Ake, Kounde, Sterling and Raphinha. Now De Jong can be added to that list.
