Carles Puyol: The changes football is making are good

He thinks that video technology helps referees without spoiling the essence of the game

Former Barcelona player Carles Puyol said on Thursday in Bogota that, despite new technology and the refereeing changes that are entering football, the essence and roots of the game will be safely maintained.

“I think that football is evolving and this is good, because in the end results will be fairer and it will help the referees, who have a very complicated job,” he explained.

“The changes are good, they will make results fairer without changing the essence of the game, it will be played just the same.”

The former Barcelona man spoke about Colombian football too, while at a UEFA event in the South American capital, where the Champions League trophy is being displayed. “The Colombian player that has stood out to me the most, was Falcao,” said Puyol, who also highlighted James Rodriguez and Juan Guillermo Cuadrado.
