Camp Nou half empty: Second worse attendance of the season
There were 50,959 fans, only better than the crowd for the Sporting Lisbon game
Camp Nou recorded the second worst attendance of the season for the Copa del Rey game against Valencia on Thursday. There were 50,959 fans present, just over 50 per cent of the stadium.
Against Sporting in the Champions League, the final and irrelevant group game, Barcelona had 48,336 fans, which was the worst. This is, of course, ignoring the game behind closed doors against Las Palmas.
The reasons for the lack of fans were varied, the intense cold in Barcelona (8 degrees celcius), the time of the game, 9.30 on a Thursday night.
Not even the semi-final of the Copa del Rey against the third best team in Spain could drag supporters to the game.
