The Portuguese midfielder is liked by Xavi and the directors but a deal needs work

Barcelona are able to make some moves on the transfer market after gaining more economic leverage last week, albeit still with caution.

The Catalans are interested in Bernardo Silva, the Manchester City midfielder.

The sports planning team have been working for months to try to boost the squad so they can compete for titles next season. Bernardo would be an impressive acquisition.

Xavi thinks there are areas that have to be reinforced whatever happens. Central midfield is not a priority, with Sergi Roberto staying, Gavi soon to extend, Franck Kessie arriving and Pablo Torre joining too. However, if Frenkie de Jong goes, Bernardo would be ideal to fill the gap.

His agent Jorge Mendes put his name on the table in the last meeting Barcelona had with him. At Camp Nou, any move would be totally conditioned by the De Jong departure. Bernardo has a contract until 2025 with Man City and a market value of 80m euros.

Guardiola joked about Bernardo Silva with Laporta at their press conference on Monday, ahead of the friendly in August between Barca and City. Let’s see which side Bernardo is playing for.
