Ronald Koeman's future hangs in the balance after Barça's latest defeat in Europe

Barcelona were thumped 3-0 by Benfica on Wednesday to leave the club's Champions League hopes hanging in the balance and coach Ronald Koeman's job hanging by a thread.

Darwin Nunez opened the scoring early on after turning Eric Garcia and Rafa Silva added the second after the break. Nunez's second, from the penalty spot, completed the rout, with Garcia sent off late on.

Barça had chances between Nunez's opener and Silva's strike but could take their chances, with Luuk de Jong especially guilty of missing opportunities.

The result leaves Barca with zero points from two games in the Champions League after their 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich at Camp Nou in their first game.

Bayern have six points and top the group, with Benfica second on four. Dynamo Kyiv are third with one point and Barça's next two games are against the Ukrainian side.

Barça return to action on Saturday when they face champions Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in LaLiga.
