Bendito says the club is in its worst institutional crisis for 40 or 50 years

Agusti Benedito announced on Thursday that he has lodged a vote of no confidence against the current board led by Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Benedito was a candidate for the presidency in 2010 and 2015 and explained that the "serious institutional crisis at our club requires that the club’s members assess whether the current board still has our confidence."

It will not be easy, though, as he needs support from 15 percent of the club's socios, which is around 16,500 signatures.

“If you are a club member and believe that to restore the club we love the board should resign, join up with the will of many other fans by signing the vote of no confidence,” Benedito added.

Other candidates from the 2015 election Toni Friexa and Joan Laporta support Benedito's vote of no confidence.

Benedito says it's the club's "worst institutional crisis for 40 or 50 years" and names the pact struck with the courts over the Neymar signing as one of the reasons.

On that matter, he says Bartomeu agreed the deal to save his predecessor Sandro Rosell from prison -- although he has since been arrested due to a money laundering investigation which is not to do with Barça.

The relationship with Qatar is also a principle cause of concern for many of the club's members, although Barça eased thoe concerns by releasing details of the contract on Wednesday.
