Bayern Munich monitoring Frenkie de Jong's situation at Barcelona

The midfielder's future is uncertain and Barça could decide to sell this summer

Frenkie de Jong could star in one of the sagas of the summer. The Dutch midfielder, despite his inconsistent form at Barcelona, has always had a good reputation elsewhere and there are big clubs keeping an eye on his situation at Barcelona.

Manchester United are one of the clubs following the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new coach. Ten Hag was De Jong's boss at Ajax and would love to be reunited in England.

But the Red Devils have competition if Barça do decide to sell De Jong. Bayern Munich are also keen on strengthening their midfield and coach Julian Nagelsmann has asked the club to monitor events at Camp Nou.

The German team will not be proactive but will position themselves in the race if it becomes clear Barça are courting offers for the player.

Bayern have the Robert Lewandowski card up their sleeve. The Polish striker is out of contract in 2023 and has drawn interest from Barça.

If Lewandowski pushed to leave, they could ask for De Jong in negotiations with Barça. For now, the Catalan club don't want to sell De Jong -- as recognised by Xavi and Jordi Cruyff -- but it will also depend on the money they're offered.

De Jong was a strategic signing for the present and the future but has not hit the levels expected. for around 80 million euros, Barça will consider selling him. Bayern and United are watching.
