Bayern Munich join clubs interested in Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic

A contract standoff could see the Croatian leave Camp Nou in the summer

Ivan Rakitic's future is going to be the subject of many rumours between now and the end of the season. Barcelona don't plan to renew his contract yet, given it's under two years since his last new deal. Rakitic is a player with a good reputation and in teh coming months he must decide what his future holds. The Croatian has big offers on the table and Barça must decide if they open the door to a transfer. The latest club to show an interest is Bayern Munich, who are preparing to remodel their squad. They have been informed about the situation and are ready to offer a reasonable package.

Barça don't want to tackle the situation until the summer. Last summer, the player had a huge offer from Paris Saint-Germain and the club seriously considered selling for 90 million euros. Finally, the player stepped back and decided to stay after talks with Ernesto Valverde. The Barça coach considered the Croatian a key part of his side. But he also knows that the club need to let someone go in the summer if the rigth offers arrive. And, after the signing of Frenkie de Jong, the Croatian could be the chosen one.

Rakitic wants and has asked for an improved deal as a 'gesture' for turning down PSG, who would have doubled his salary last summer. The club understand but they feel it's not the moment to offer new terms despite his performances on the pitch. The finances aren't in place. Rakitic is pushing but hasn't got the answer he wants yet. Rakitic wants to stay at Camp Nou but will listen to other offers if the situation doesn't change. Bayern need a player with his cahracteristics and value his experience in the Bundesliga.

In recent weeks, various clubs have approached Barça and the player's agents. Inter Milan are one but Barça aren't convinced they can pay the fee. Chelsea also wanted him but have been hit by a transfer ban. Meanwhile, Manchester United and Juventus are in the background. What is clear is that the race is on but Barça are also clear: they would want more than 50 million euros. Another thing is Valverde, who still wants him to continue.
