The president may have given something away by trying to give nothing away

Barcelona president Josep Maris Bartomeu has hinted a deal for Matthijs de Ligt is almost closed. Even though he did it subtly, the comments suggest he is confident of landing the Ajax defender.

"There will be time to speak about him," Bartomeu told ESPN. "Each year the club has an interest in making signings and this summer will be the same. De Ligt, like the other best players, is on the table.

"He is a great player and a great centre-back. I know what will happen with him but it's not the moment [to talk]."

GUARDIOLA RETURN

Meanwhile, Bartomeu was also open to a possible return of Pep Guardiola: "He took the decision to leave and, of course, when Barca are looking for a new coach I am sure he will be one of the next board's candidates.

"I think Pep said recently that he didn't see himself as the first team coach again, but maybe with the academy. He's very clear on the club's philosophy and style of play and to be able to bring him back home would be great for the club and for the players."

COACH XAVI

On Xavi, Bartomeu's certain he will be on the Camp Nou touchline one day: "I'm sure that one day he will be [Barça coach], if he has the ambition. He knows when his project in Qatar's over, he has a place at this club, coaching at the academy, the B team o even the first team when he's got experience."
