Peace. After a difficult Tuesday due to the public comments made by Lionel Messi and Eric Abidal, Barcelona have brought an end to the crisis following an intervention from president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Sporting director Abidal will remain in his role following a meeting on Wednesday with Bartomeu and CEO Oscar Grau that lasted more than two hours. Prior to that, Bartomeu had spoken with Messi on the phone and the players has already reconciled with Abidal.
The crisis has come to an end and the objective is to remain united so that the team can achieve their objectives this season.
Bartomeu spoke with Messi in the morning and with Abidal and decided to bring forward his return to Barcelona. He had been at a meeting in Brussels in the club's name. As soon as he landed back in the city, he met with Abidal and Grau.
The meeting was beneficial for all parties. Everyone gave their opinion and there was a universal agreement that it is best to turn the page on the incident.
Abidal will remain as the sporting director. In fact, he will travel to Bilbao for Thursday's game against Athletic with Samuel Umtiti (the defender has to travel later in the day as he has a court case regarding damages at a previous home).
Bartomeu will also be at San Mames, although he will travel later. Barça have moved on from the incident, as revealed by SPORT earlier in the day.
