For the Barça president, winning the Champions League would have been "the icing on the cake"

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu gave an interview to radio station Rac1 to discuss El Clasico and the team's possible signings over the summer.

Josep Maria Bartomeu spoke about the performance of referee Hernandez Hernandez during  the 2-2 draw between Barça and Madrid at Camp Nou.

"When Sergi Roberto had been sent off and given we were playing a great team like Real Mdarid, I really suffered," Bartomeu said.

"Barça is one of those clubs that has been asking for technology for a long time and I'm delighted that VAR is coming in soon. It it is used well it will be beneficial.

"We've wanted VAR for a few seasons because we've  suffered in the last few years. We had Messi's goal disallowed for offside against Atletico which cost us a league title. With VAR, we'd have been champions. There's also  been ghost goals."

"It was a very difficult game to referee," added Bartomeu.

"There were some comments between Florentino Perez and me. There was an offside, a goal, the Sergi Roberto red card and there's obviously discrepancies, the possible penalty by Alba on Marcelo. There's always lots of comments, but we try and stay cordial and let each person defend their team."

THE SEASON

Bartomeu said he was very pleased with Barça's campaign and their double win.

"I'd say it was an excellent season, I'd give it a nine out of 10, if we'd have got to the Champions League it would have been the icing on the cake," said the president.

"I give it a nine because we won the double and got an unbeaten record and because of the good work of Ernesto Valverde and his team, and because the players maintained their enthusiasm and excitment. I hope we finish the season unbeaten."

He also said he did not think Madrid winning the Champions League would ruin Barça's season.

"No, what we saw on the victory parade was that the fans are proud of the team. It's our eighth double and we have to enjoy this moment."
