Barcelona's plan B: Juan Carlos Unzue takes over as coach

According to AS, if Luis Enrique does not agree to extend his contract, Unzue will be offered the job and Lucho a new role

Madrid-based newspaper AS claim Barcelona's Plan B, if Luis Enrique does not want to extend his contract as coach, would be to appoint his second in command, Juan Carlos Unzue.

Luis Enrique will not give away his intentions until Spring, with his contract set to end in June.

If Unzue does take over Barcelona would offer Luis Enrique the role of general manager, while Unzue takes over the coaching duties. It would be a similar type of operation that saw Tito Vilanova take over from Pep Guardiola in the mechanics, although that was because Pep had differences with the board.

Unzue has been a goalkeeper, goalkeeping coach and now second in command at Barcelona. His only experience as a first-team coach was with Numancia in Segunda A, finishing 10th in 2010-11.

In June 2012 he signed for Racing, but did not start the season at the club which was in internal conflict.
