International Federation of Football History and Statistics reveal Uruguayan's won award for third time

Luis Suarez’s nose for goal has led to further recognition.

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) announced on Wednesday that the Barcelona striker, with 40 goals, is the top scorer in the world in 2016.

The IFFHS use goals scored in league games throughout the calendar year. With 40, Suarez comes in above Zlatan Ibrahimovic (38) and in third place is Gonzalo Higuain (36).

Suarez also won the Golden Shoe for being Europe’s top scorer in 2015-16 ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portuguese finishing fourth in the calendar year with 35 goals.

After winning the award in 2010 with Ajax Amsterdam and 2014 with FC Liverpool, Suarez has now won the IFFHS Award for The World’s Best Top Division Goal Scorer for a third time.
