Barcelona's license for the new Spotify Camp Nou approved

| sport

Excellent news for FC Barcelona. SPORT explained on Monday that the building permit to begin construction on the new Spotify Camp Nou was on its way and this morning the club announced in a press release that it had received it. The licence had been delayed because Joan Laporta's board of directors modified the project that had been presented by the previous board.

It was the City Council's Government Commission that approved the granting of the main licence for the remodelling of the Spotify Camp Nou. This means that the club now has the green light to carry out the work, above and below ground. Thus, during the 2023/24 season and with the demolition work practically completed, the bulk of the work will be carried out, with the foundations being laid, as well as the construction of the structure of the new third tier, including both hospitality rings.

In addition, it is also planned to promote actions in the area surrounding the stadium, with works on the underground car park, the construction of the new intelligent central warehouse and an 'experiences' space, the Barça Hospitality Showroom, to provide information to members and marketing of the project.

Finally, with works related to the Modification of the General Metropolitan Plan already underway, the urban development work on Carrer Menéndez y Pelayo has been completed and the development of Travessera de les Corts, the second phase of Avinguda de Joan XXIII and Carrer d'Elizabeth Eidenbenz (formerly Carrer de la Maternitat) is scheduled to begin.

Work on the new Spotify Camp Nou, the epicentre of the Espai Barça, began last June, just after the end of the sporting season, and also after the demolition of the third tier of the stadium, taking advantage of the break in La Liga due to the World Cup. In recent months, work has concentrated on the total demolition of the third tier, which is now practically complete.

Deadlines

With the building permit already approved, the club is confident that the deadlines will be met. Limak has gone faster than planned on the demolition and is confident that it will also do so in terms of construction. If all goes to plan, Barça should leave the exile of Montjuïc and return home in November 2024, coinciding with the club's 125th anniversary. It should do so with about two-thirds of the capacity and with the first and second tiers completed. In parallel, work would still continue on the third tier and the rings with VIP boxes.

According to forecasts, the following season, 2025-26, the stadium would have 90-95% of the capacity and it will be in June 2026 when Limak must hand over the finished work to FC Barcelona.
