What Barcelona will work on doing in the winter transfer window
The Catalan giants had a good summer but there is still homework to be done
After a crazy summer in which Barcelona cleaned out much of their squad, the club are preparing now for the winter window.
For Barcelona it won’t be a normal one, as they continue to do the work they started in the summer.
The key is to lower the wage bill still further, something that’s been hard for Alemany, with nobody lowering their salary and only unnecessary players leaving (Braithwaite, Pjanic, Puig) on a free. In many cases Barcelona had to pay them off.
To lower the salary further they have to convince the likes of Gerard Pique and Alba to take cuts or leave, and sell Frenkie de Jong, Memphis etc.
The squad configuration means some players will barely feature - there are three left-backs, for example, and five centre-backs. So, work for Mateu Alemany and Co to do.
