After a move for Rodrigo failed, the club have opted against signing for the sake of it

As revealed by Sport on Wednesday, there was the chance that Barcelona would rule out signing a striker this month after talks with Valencia over a deal for Rodrigo Moreno broke down.

That possibility has now become a reality after sporting director Eric Abidal informed the Barca president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, that there's no one on the market that meets the criteria.

Barça were looking for a cheap, preferably short-term option before making a move for longer-term targets in the summer. They wanted a mobile No.9 on loan but nothing has come up.

Therefore, new coach Quique Setien will conform with what he's got: Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Ansu Fati... and Ousmane Dembele, who will return from a hamstring problem soon.

Suarez was ruled out for four months earlier in January. It's unlikely he will play again this season but he could return at the end of April/beginning of May in the best-case scenario.
