Talks over a renewal have stalled due to the coronavirus crisis

Barcelona's complicated financial situation due to the coronavirus crisis could accelerate the departure of Nelson Semedo, a player who the club fought hard to hang on to last summer when there was interest.

Barça have told Semedo's agent, Jorge Mendes, that talks over a new deal are currently postponed. The Catalan club want him to continue bit in the current circumstances there are other priorities.

Mendes has asked the club to think about a possible exit and Barça have fixed a price tag of 45 million euros on the Portugal right-back's head.

Talks over a new deal began in February. Barça spoke with Mendes about extending his terms by another three years. Semedo's current contract expires in 2022.

Barça's main goal was to keep Semedo's value and stop him forcing an exit, as he tried last summer when there was interest from Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Manchester City.

There was no agreement, even though Mendes and Semedo seemed open to signing. Semedo wants to play a bigger role and Barça have bet on hin this season. But in this last week, the club have been obliged to stop all renewal talks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mendes responded by asking for a move in the summer. To avoid last summer's problems, the agent asked Barça to name their price so he could get to work. Mendes is convinced someone will pay the 45 million.

Semedo has a lot of clubs interested in him. Man City and Juve are among them and a swap deal to soften the price could also happen.
