671 club members voted to have the honours bestowed on them taken away

Barcelona will remove the three distinctions which were awarded to the club by the dictator Francisco Franco in the years 1951, 1971 and 1974.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu admitted that the socios complaining that the measure had arrived late were right: "In the 2003-04 season, as part of Joan Laporta's board, we planned to take action, but at that point we didn't have all the necessary information and documentation.

"We have it now and, in homage to our parents and grandparents, we can move forward with the action."

The socios had to vote at Sunday's AGM to approve the removal of the honours. The result was almost unanimous, although surprisingly there were two votes against.

However, 671 voted in favour of getting rid of Franco's distinctions, while seven abstained from voting in addition to the two negative votes.
