Barcelona target Dortmund's Meunier as they chase a new right-back
The Belgium international was also a target in January for the Catalans
Barcelona want to complete their squad with the signing of a right-back, but first of all Sergiño Dest needs to leave and then the option to replace him needs to be affordable.
The club were working on Cesar Azpilicueta but after he signed a new deal with Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund's Thomas Meunier is the alternative, as revealed by SPORT.
However, it will not be easy to land the Belgium international because Dortmund will command a fee.
Meunier was a target in January. Barça tried to sign him on loan with an option to make the move permanent, but Dortmund did not accept and the player did not force the issue despite his desire to take up the opportunity.
This time, Meunier feels Dortmund are morally obliged to let him leave, although things will not be straightforward.
Barça's plan is not to pay more than €10m. Dortmund want €15m. There's room to negotiate but Barça want to pay a fair price. There is no rush, the window closes on Aug. 31.
Meunier has a similar profile to Azpilicueta. He has a lot of international experience, defends well above all but can also complement the attack.
