The club want to sign a right-back but will not pay Fresneda's €20m release clause

Barcelona have set to work to sign a right-back and will start their offensive for Iván Fresneda, the Real Valladolid full-back who has convinced the club's sporting department.

The sporting analysis has already been done and the Blaugrana will work to try to close a deal that is viable and not too costly.

Fresneda's clause is €20 million and they are looking for alternative formulas with a fixed fee and variables to convince Valladolid to do business.

The full-back has waited for the Catalan club's decision, prioritising a move to Barça as long as there is an amicable agreement between the clubs.

The Blaugrana had put Fresneda's arrival on hold after initial soundings with his entourage to find out if the player was willing to sign.

There was no margin for registration, but after the operation that Barça is about to close with Barça Studios, the door has been opened to incorporate two players and one of them will be the full-back. With the OK to start negotiations, Barça have contacted Valladolid again to start negotiations, although it will not be an easy task.

Valladolid, for now, have referred to the player's termination clause, but Barça will not pay that figure. The signing of Fresneda would be a bet for the future and in the sports area they do not want to risk such a high amount.

There is the conviction that an agreement can be reached as long as there is a coherent proposal that is beneficial for Valladolid now and in the future. And one option would be to pay a fixed fee of just over €10 million with variables depending on performance that could be close to the player's current buy-out clause.

For now, the moves have been consultative and next week will be decisive in trying to move forward with the signing. Barça believe Fresneda has a great capacity for growth and prioritise investing in a player for the future rather than bringing in a more experienced player with a much higher wage.

There was the possibility of fighting for Joao Cancelo, but his one-year loan from Manchester City could be more than €20 million between the loan fee and the signing fee and is seen as excessive.

Fresneda is also handling the interest of other powerful clubs in Europe. For now, there has been no official offer, but moves were expected in August. Barça are looking to move forward with the intention of reaching an agreement, although alternatives are being considered and an out-of-market price will not be paid.
