The French centre back was desperate to come to Camp Nou and rejected Chelsea

Barcelona will announce the transfer of Jules Kounde today, imminently. The Catalan club and Sevilla have reached a deal; Barça will pay €50 million fixed plus €10 million in variables, of which half will be easy to fulfil.

The player was a key target for Xavi Hernández, the Barça coach and he will sign a deal until 2027, for five years. Kounde’s desire to come to Barcelona was key for the transfer to happen. He said no to Chelsea and obliged the Andalusian club to negotiate with Barcelona, even though they already had a deal with the London side.

The French centre-back is the sixth arrival this season after Kessie, Christensen, Raphinha, Pablo Torre and Robert Lewandowski. The club aren’t stopping, they want two more players to reinforce the defence.
