Barcelona star Lionel Messi to break his silence

The Argentine will speak at an Adidas event in the Catalan city on Thursday

Lionel Messi will break his silence. The Barcelona star will speak to the media on Thursday after taking part in his side’s Champions League game against Celtic on Wednesday night.

The appearance will be in Barcelona at an event put on by Adidas for the ‘Never Follow’ campaign, which Messi, as well as Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, is the star of.

During the event Messi will make his first public appearance since he spoke after Argentina’s win over Colombia. However, that was just to explain that the Argentine players would be carrying out a media blackout.

Messi, as his nation’s captain, was in charge of revealing the boycott, which came about as a result of stories about Lavezzi.

The last week has been dominated with stories about Messi’s future. Reports that he turned down a contract in the summer have been followed by stories linking him with the Premier League once again.

However, SPORT understand talks over a new Barça deal will begin soon and he’s expected to extend his stay beyond 2018 in the new year. On Thursday, he may even confirm as much himself.
