Barcelona reach their 59th Copa del Rey semifinal with La Real win
The Catalan club have had more Copa success than any other Spanish side
FC Barcelona reached their 59th Copa del Rey semifinal this Wednesday after beating Real Sociedad in the quarterfinals. Since the KO competition began in 1903, Barça have reached the final on 39 occasions and bit the dust on 19.
Barça played their first Copa semifinal in the first game they played in the tournament, on April 5, 1909. They lost against Español FC from Madrid.
The first semifinal that Barça won was in 1912, when they defeated España FC from Barcelona 3-0 with goals from Alfred Massana, Pepe Rodríguez and Estévez.
In more recent years, Barça have played seven semifinals since 2014 and won them all: 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
The last semifinal they played, against Sevilla, was overcome despite losing 2-0 at Pizjuán. Ronald Koeman's team won at Camp Nou 3-0 with a goal from Braithwaite in extra time
In total, Barça have taken part in 58 Copa semifinals, reaching the final 39 times (they won 31) and losing 19. The draw for the semifinal will take place next Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Las Rozas (Madrid).
