Barcelona player ratings: Ter Stegen & Messi key to Atletico win

Barça relied on moments of individual brilliance at each end to win an even match at the Calderon

Here is how Barcelona's players did as the won 2-1 at Atletico Madrid on Sunday:

Ter Stegen (8) The German stopped everything thrown at him, bar Godin's goal, which he was blinded for. Transmitted security to his team-mates and made one stunning save from Griezmann.

Sergi Roberto (5) In theory was in midfield, but often back at right-back when Barça defending. Didn't look at home in Luis Enrique's change of system (three centre-backs) and was hardly involved in an attacking sense.

Piqué (7) Had problems playing out from the back, but was perfect in defence when dealing with electric forwards in Gameiro, Griezmann and Torres. Dangerous at set plays, too.

Umtiti (7) Well-positioned and covered well, although lacked fluidity on the ball. That's 14 wins from 14 league starts for the Frenchman in a Barcelona shirt.

Mathieu (6) Did his job without many problems. Unfortunately forced off with an ankle injury after a late Correa challenge in the 75th minute.

Sergio Busquets (4) Gave the ball away far too much, was booked and also gave Atletico the free-kick from which they equalised.

Iniesta (5) Atletico's intensity took him out the game and he could do little damage with the ball. Lost the ball more than usual, too. Was taken off for Rakitic.

Rafinha (7) Was playing an average game but then made a key contribution, scoring the opening goal after 63 minutes. Was a goal of faith, courage and belief. It's his sixth goal of the season -- impressive numbers considering his injury problems, too.

Messi (8) Almost scored with a great free-kick, but was denied by Oblak. Struggled to affect the game at times but had the biggest affect of all in the final few minutes. Scored the winner and celebrated this time, too, after choosing not to last week against Leganes.

Neymar (7) Looked to beat his man and was Barca's best player for large parts of the afternoon. Atletico resorted to fouls to stop him.

Luis Suárez (7) Not as inspired as normal, but did fight like he always does. Was key in the build up to Rafinha's goal.

SUBSTITUTES

Rakitic (6) Came on for Iniesta for the final 20 minutes.

Digne (5) Replaced the injured Mathieu and held his own.

André Gomes (5) Five-minute run out, during which Messi scored the winner.
