Barcelona saw off Villarreal with two goals from Messi, one each from Neymar and Suarez

The trident were the key players as Barcelona put Villarreal to the sword

Ter Stegen 5 - Took some odd decisions, especially when it came to playing with his feet.

Sergi Roberto 7 - His spirit helped push on Barcelona, impressive in attack. Booked and will be banned next week.

Gerard Pique 7 - Villarreal’s goal caught him out, he couldn’t catch Cedric Bakambu in the foot-race. After that he was impressive and nearly scored.

Samuel Umtiti 7 - Always alert to danger and good at cutting it out. Hugely important at the back for Barcelona.

Lucas Digne 7 - Surprisingly was picked over Alba. Started timidly but improved, becoming more daring in attack without forgetting his defensive tasks.

Sergio Busquets 7 - Brought solidity and balance to the centre of the pitch.

Ivan Rakitic 6 - Limited by the quality of Villarreal, more concerned by defending than attacking. Good sacrifice helped Barcelona.

Andres Iniesta 7 - A lot of Barcelona’s play came through his boots, in the midfield and further forward. Physically not at his best level but still played a complete game.

Lionel Messi 8 - Made the first goal and scored the second, adding a fourth from the penalty spot with a Panenka.

Neymar 8 - Hadn’t scored since April 2 but notched in the 20th minute. Active, brilliant one-on-one, and unbalanced defenders, few players can dribble like him.

Luis Suarez 8 - Started without fluidity but worked his way into the game.
