The club face the threat of bankruptcy if they can't strike deal with the players

The lawyers of Barcelona's first team players met with the club for the first time on Friday to discuss a wage cut. RAC1 explained that the players are more willing to talk after the resignation of now ex-president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The club's financial situation is so severe that they need to knock 190 million euros of the wage bill. If not, it has even been suggested that the club could go into bankruptcy if there's no agreement by the end of the year.

Barça are negotiating against the clock with the objective of a 30 percent wage cut across the board and Thursday has been pencilled in as the deadline.

One of the main points of the negotiation is Lionel Messi's position. The Argentine earns the most in the squad. And is in a conflictive situation between now and the end of the season.

If Messi doesn't renew his contract which expires in 2021, an option which cannot be ruled out, he has to be paid a bonus at the end of the season that the club are not in a position to pay today. He's the player that earns the most but he also helps generate around 300 million euros in revenue.

If an agreement cannot be reached in the coming days, Barça could decide to apply measures unilaterally.
