Barcelona move above Man Utd as top earners after Rakuten deal

When the deal kicks in next summer the Catalan club will topple United, Chelsea and Bayern

Japanese company Rakuten will ensure that Barcelona, when they start their partnership with the e-commerce giants, will be the club paid the most money in football by their sponsors.

Barça vice president Manel Arroyo was the man who revealed the figures involved in the agreement. Rakuten will pay the Catalan club 55 million euros per season. It could go up to 61.5 million euros with bonuses on offer for winning La Liga (1.5 million euros) and winning the Champions League (5 million euros).

The 55 million euro base figure moves Barça ahead of Manchester United as the club receiving the most money from their shirt sponsors. United, who have a contract with Chevrolet until 2021, earn 54 million euros-a-year from the car manufacturer.

In third place is another Premier League club. Chelsea receive 44 million euros annually from Yokohama, while Bayern Munich occupy fourth spot. The German side’s deal with Deutsche telekom is worth 35 million euros-a-season until 2023.

Real Madrid’s deal with Fly Emirates, which runs from 2013 until 2018, comes in a 30 million euros-a-year.
