Barcelona midfielder Busquets has ligament sprain in his left knee

Sergio Busquets will not be able to play against Atletico Madrid this weekend although Barcelona have not confirmed how long the midfielder will be out of action. 

Busquets got injured during Spain's 1-1 draw with Switzerland last weekend and missed La Roja's 6-0 hammering of Germany in Seville on Tuesday. 

Barça have confirmed on Wednesday that he's sprained the ligament in his knee following tests upon his return to the club. 

"First team player Sergio Busquets has been visited by the club's Medical Services team this morning and the diagnosis of a sprain of the external lateral ligament of his left knee has been confirmed," a statement read. 

"The player will therefore not play this weekend, and the evolution of the injury will condition his availability." 

Therefore, coach Ronald Koeman will not have Busquets available for the big game at the Wanda against Atletico. In total this season he has played eight times as a starter and a further two times off the bench. 

His place is expected to be taken by summer signing Miralem Pjanic, who will line up alongside Frenkie de Jong in midfield.
