Barcelona members approve Qatar Airways' sponsorship extension
Josep Maria Bartomeu, the club's president, asked for a positive vote for the decision to extend and he got the result
Barcelona socios voted at the Assembly of Club Members on Saturday to approve the sponsorship by Qatar Airways for another year while the club look for a new long-term deal. It was approved by 483 votes for, 251 against and 60 abstain votes.
The debate among socios has been fierce non this issue, but the members want the club to have time to find a good alternative.
"We are looking for the best possible sponsorship deal for the club, one which FC Barcelona deserves," said Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Bartomeu was grateful to the attendees for their behaviour, acknowledging "the polite atmosphere at the time of debating a topic so sensitive".
The president said "today we are voting for another year of the deal. Manel Arroyo's team have worked for a long time. There are open doors, there are other negotiations and we will meet again when we have a long-term deal."
