Barcelona make final offensive for Man City's Eric Garcia

The Catalan club want to sign the defender in January

Barcelona's shortage of centre-back has led them to prepare another offer for Manchester City's Eric Garcia, who came through at La Masia.

Barça tried to sign Garcia in the summer but failed. They will have another month -- from Jan. 4 until Feb. 1 -- to get the deal done this winter.

They will offer eight million euros, which is less than they offered in the summer. The Blaugrana feel that they should not have to pay much more than that because Garcia can leave City for free next summer when his contract expires.

In contrast to the summer's offer, the new offer will include hardly any add-ons. The club's financial situation after the resignation of Josep Maria Bartomeu is not ideal but it will not impede making the signing.

This week there will be a meeting between sporting director Ramon Planes and the coach Ronald Koeman to talk about January and the team's weaknesses.

However, before doing any business in January, Barcelona first need to agree on wage deferrals with the players to allow them some room to breathe financially.

There is already an agreement in principle with Garcia, who left Barça for City in 2017 and has made it clear he doesn't want to extend his deal in Manchester.
