Barcelona looking for formula to rescind Samuel Umtiti's contract

The French defender has not played a single minute this season under three coaches

Barcelona are weighing up their options with Samuel Umtiti to see if they can rescind his contract. The club have suffered the consequences of his elevated salary and he has not played a single minute this season under Ronald Koeman, Sergi Barjuan or Xavi Hernandez.

Given the situation, Barça feel the best solution now is to agree on an exit after failing to negotiate a wage reduction with the France defender. Now, Barça will look for another formula that will allow them to free themselves of a player who is out of contract in 2023.

Umtiti impressed at Barça after signing from Lyon but has struggled since suffering a knee injury in 2018. In the last four seasons, he's played 3,411 minutes, which is the same amount he played in the 2017-18 season, before renewing his contract with the Catalan club.

The club want to make Umtiti understand that an agreement is necessary because at 28 years of age he could find a new club to give his career a new start.
