Barcelona interested in signing the Scottish Iniesta
The 15-year-old has been watched more than once by the Catalan club's scouts
Barcelona are reportedly monitoring one of the biggest talents emerging in Scottish football. Glasgow Rangers midfielder Billy Gilmour, who’s been likened to Andres Iniesta and Xavi, is the player in question.
Scottish newspaper the Daily Record says Barça’s top scouts have been to Scotland on several occasions to run their eye over the 15-year-old. Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Manchester United are also following the teenager’s progress.
“Barcelona came to watch just Billy in the game against France and see him as a player in the Xavi or Iniesta mould in terms of his size and technical ability,” a source told the Scottish paper.
“It’s going to be very difficult for Rangers to hold onto him beyond the end of the season, when he turns 16. The top sides from abroad can offer money beyond the reach of Rangers and Celtic.”
Another player in Glasgow has also interested Barça. Only a fear of breaching FIFA regulations prevented them signing Celtic’s Karamoko Dembele little over a year ago. The 13-year-old has since gone viral after playing for his the SPL champion’s development squad.
