CIES say it reveals "a relationship between long-term planning and success"

Barcelona's squad is tied down to the most stable contracts in Europe's top five leagues, according to a study carried out by CIES.

CIES have looked at the 11 most regular players at each corresponding European club and the length remaining on their contracts.

Barça top the list, with their players having an average of 3.59 years remaining on their contract -- 3.23 if that's extended to include the whole squad.

The data shows, according to CIES, "a relationship between long-term planning and success."

Curiously, second on the list is Real Madrid (3.5 years for their XI and 3.19 for their squad), followed by Lille, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid.

The list of 98 clubs closes with French side Amiens: their players have, on average, less than a year to run on their deals.
