Barcelona have still not made a formal contract offer to Lionel Messi

Both parties are keen to renew and there is likely to be an agreement in the next couple of months

Lionel Messi and Barcelona will reach an agreement. The Argentine star's contract renewal, possibly until the end of his sporting career, won't take long to arrive. But, at the moment, the club have still not made a formal offer to the player, nor has there been a meeting between president Josep Maria Bartomeu and Messi's father, Jorge.

SPORT have learned that the only movement so far has been telephone conversations between Bartomeu and Jorge Messi in which both parties have expressed their desire to come to an agreement. Nothing has changed in the last week. And the president's comments to TVE are just a new sign of his intentions.

Messi's renewal, beyone the financial side of things, is dependent on Barça's sporting project for the coming seasons. It's one of the keys for Messi renewing. He wants to earn more, but he also wants to feel happy on the pitch and win titles.

Everything suggests that the meeting between Bartomeu and Jorge Messi, which still doesn't have a date, could take place in the middle of February, possibly around the Champions League game with PSG. The meeting (because there will surely be more than one) will be carried out with discretion so as not to unsettle Messi or the team.
