Barcelona fear defender Clement Lenglet is waiting for Tottenham deal

The centre-back's move to Saudi side Al-Nassr looks unlikely to materialise

Barcelona are pushing for Clement Lenglet's exit, as it could be a key strategic operation in terms of saving on the wage bill.

The club's overall priority is to save his salary and the aim was to place him at Al-Nassr, who were ready to pay a transfer fee and hand the player more than €10 million net per season.

The centre-back has practically closed the door on the Saudi offer and Al-Nassr could complete the signing of Manchester City's Aymeric Laporte, so other avenues will have to be considered before the transfer window closes.

Lenglet's blocking position leads Barça to believe that the Frenchman is prioritising a return to Tottenham, although the English side have already made it clear that they do not wish to pay a transfer fee and, at most, would pay almost the full salary.

Lenglet would have to reduce his salary somewhat, though, and the Blaugrana would thus save a lot of money, but would not receive any income. However, if this option were to be considered, it is likely that the deal could not be finalised until the last few days of the market and Barça are in a hurry.

Lenglet's salary savings could be absolutely key to Barça's possible signings in this final stretch of the market. Dest's salary is quite low and would not have too much of an impact, but the Frenchman's salary is important.

The French centre-back continues to train with the team while awaiting a solution, but he is clear that he wants to choose his own destination.
