Barcelona fail to get Copa del Reina halted as they await appeal resolution

The competition will continue as normal without the Catalan club this month

Barcelona have not achieved their objective of stopping the quarter-finals of the Copa de la Reina until the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) resolves the club's appeal against their exclusion from the competition for the improper alignment of Geyse Ferreira in the round of 16 against Osasuna, a match that Jonatan Giráldez's side won with a resounding 0-9 victory.

After seeing their initial appeal rejected by the Competition Committee and the Appeals Committee, Barça went to the TAD and, at the same time, went to the ordinary courts to request the precautionary suspension of the competition until the TAD issued a resolution.

According to the programme 'Tot Costa' on 'Catalunya Radio', the ordinary courts have rejected the Catalan club's request, though, meaning that the quarter-finals will be played, as scheduled, in March.

The case dates back to the match played in Pamplona in January. Osasuna complained to the RFEF's Competition Committee about the improper alignment of Geyse, who was carrying a one-match ban for her expulsion the previous year against Sporting Huelva, when she was a Madrid CFF player. The Federation expelled the Blaugrana from the competition.

Barça claimed the suspension was not listed in the disciplinary resolutions section of the RFEF website, but their appeal was unsuccessful before both the Competition and Appeal bodies. The Catalan club hopes that TAD will eventually rule in their favour. Meanwhile, Real Madrid, Atlético, Tenerife, Athletic, Villarreal, Alhama, Osasuna and Granada will play in the quarter-finals.
