Barcelona have more executives than ever... hypocrisy?

| sport

What has happened in the last few months at FC Barcelona in terms of labour, is a complete contradiction. Firing employees to meet the Strategic Plan shows a great deal of improvisation, especially considering some very clear data.

In June 2021, there were eleven professionals in the Management Committee (senior executives). In June 2022, in the first full year of Joan Laporta's presidency, that number doubled to twenty-two. In terms of costs, it went from 3.7 million euros to 6.1 million euros. This is a significant increase.

The same goes for the number of employees at the club. At the end of the 2020-2021 season, there were a total of 1,289 employees across all areas. One year later, it increased to 1,392.

All of this wouldn't be of the slightest importance or a topic of debate if it weren't for the fact that the same board of directors that doubled the cost and the number of its management committee and hired over a hundred employees is now claiming that the FC Barcelona workforce is oversized. It's clear that this argument doesn't hold water. It's a case of "do as I say, not as I do."
