The midfielder is out of contract next summer and could return to Barça

Xavi Simons is in FC Barcelona's orbit, according to Cadena SER on Monday. The midfielder, who came through the club's academy, could return next summer when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires.

Simons is ready to come back to Catalonia and at Camp Nou they don't rule out the possibility. The club have other priorities at the moment, but they wouldn't be averse to opening negotiations in the future.

Simons' name came up in the meeting the player's agent, Mino Raiola, held with Barça president Joan Laporta, when they spoke about Erling Haaland's situation.

There's no definitive decision made, far from it, but the club will track Simons' situation, with it unlikely that he will renew his deal in Paris as things stand.

He has not been involved with the first team this season and he feels ready to take the next step in his career.

NEW PIQUÉ’?

In the case that Simons does end up returning to Barça, he will follow the example of other players like Gerard Pique, Cesc Fabregas and Eric Garcia. All three left La Masia, with Pique joining Manchester United, Fabregas moving to Arsenal and Garcia signing for Manchester City, before returning to Camp Nou later in their careers.
