Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo injured in training ahead of Cadiz game

Bad news for Xavi Hernández. In FC Barcelona's latest training session, the team's fourth captain, Ronald Araujo, suffered a femoral biceps injury that will make him a definite absentee for Barça's match against Cádiz in the Azulgranas' LaLiga debut at Montjuïc.

The Uruguayan, who was one of the most outstanding players at Getafe with his continuous runs in his new position of right-back, could have been decisive in provoking a penalty in favour of Barça, although in the end the VAR disallowed it due to Gavi's earlier handball.

Now, his absence will force Xavi to either bring back Kounde in the position he likes the least or recycle Sergi Roberto.

BARÇA STATEMENT

"Araujo has injured the femoral biceps in the hamstring of his left leg and will be unavailable for selection until the injury clears up.

"Meanwhile, Thursday brought a further training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

"Xavi Hernández had all of the available players with him at the Tito Vilanova for a workout that Iñigo Martínez was also able to join for some of the time."

HOW LONG OUT?

Although the Barça statement does not give a specific time off, injuries to the biceps femoris usually keep players out for three to four weeks, so the Uruguayan would not be available again until the return of LaLiga after the international break, i.e. until the fifth matchday against Betis at the Estadi Lluís Companys.

WHAT GAMES COULD HE MISS?

Assuming the minimum time off, the aforementioned three weeks, the centre-back would miss three LaLiga matches against Cádiz at Montjuïc, Villarreal at La Cerámica and Osasuna at El Sadar.
