Barcelona defender Gerard Pique's horrible week
Arguably this was the defender's worst week while at the club in terms of performance
What is happening to Gerard Pique? A question everyone is asking. The Barcelona defender could write a book on being a central defender given his superb career at Barcelona, but he is enduring probbably his worst week at the club in terms of individual performance. Three games in seven days in which he has made horrible errors.
Anyone can have a bad game, two in a row is rare at the top level, but the problem is that it's now three. And as a result Barcelona have not won any of the three games, taking just two points from nine. It is a mini-crisis. One which will go away if results turn, but with Tottenham at Wembley to come, the situation is worrying.
Pique is an emblem of the club, its philosophy. In 11 season he has stood out for his rigour, his elegance, his precision, his leadership. He still has the confidence of Valverde but that doesn't mean his errors should not be analysed.
barça-girona (2-2):
Slow for both Girona goals. He let Stuani get away to strike the opener, then he brought down Portu for what might have been a penalty in the build up to the second goal.
LEGANÉS-BARÇA (2-1):
A bad game and another bad erorr, with Pique heading the ball straight to Oscar Rodriguez who fired home from close range. A lack of concentration.
BARÇA-ATHLETIC (1-1):
In this case you have to look harder for the error, but it's there. When Susaeta crossed the ball, Pique played Oscar de Marcos onside. At the back post De Marcos snuck in and beat Ter Stegen.
