Barcelona continuing to push for deal for Flamengo right-back Wesley

The Brazilian could yet arrive before the transfer window closes in Europe this week

Barcelona's move for Wesley, a target for the reserve team, could go to the limit with the transfer window closing on Tuesday.

Flamengo continue with their irreducible position and have not accepted Barça's offer of a one-year loan, in exchange for a small remuneration, plus a non-mandatory purchase option.

Wesley, the 19-year-old right-back who plays for Flamengo's U20 team, would initially be a signing to strengthen Rafa Marquez's Barça Atletic side.

However, Barça have practically no room for negotiation due to the sword of Damocles of the Financial Fair Play that affects both the first team and Barça Atlètic. And, in front of them, a very hard nut to crack has been found.

With the transfer of the midfielder Joao Gomes to Wolverhampton for €18.7 million, Flamengo have already covered the entire sales budget for 2023 -- and January has not even ended.

The next to leave will be the great hope of the academy, Matheus França, 18, for whom the Cariocas hope to bill at least €20m. Newcastle are the most interested.

The current champion of the Libertadores, therefore, do not have the need to part with full-back Wesley, who currently plays in the Carioca Championship, no matter how much depth they have in the position with Matheuzinho and the Uruguayan Guillermo Varela.

The main party interested in seeing the operation come to fruition is Wesley himself, who does not want to miss out on the opportunity to join Barça, even if it's via the B team at first.
