Barcelona confirm Mathieu has a calf injury following Espanyol loss

Jeremy Mathieu had to be taken off in the second half of the Catalan Super Cup

Jeremy Mathieu didn't end the Catalan Super Cup well against Espanyol. After being beaten by Felipe Caicedo for the game's only goal, he had to be taken off injured in the 54th minute. Barça B defender Martinez took his place.

At the end of the game, Barça confirmed Mathieu suffered a calf problem. On Wednesday he will undergo tests at the training ground to discover the true extent of the injury.

They don't expect the Frenchman to be sidelined for too long, although his recovery will not be forced. He's likely to miss the Granada game and is then suspended for the Champions League trip to Manchester City anyway, due to his red card in the game against the Premier League side at Camp Nou.
