Barcelona confirm defender Samuel Umtiti has coronavirus
The Frenchman is not with the first team in Lisbon for the Champions League
Samuel Umtiti has tested positive for coronavirus, Barcelona announced on Friday after the Frenchman underwent the PCR test on Thursday.
"After the PCR tests carried out on Thursday the first team player Samuel Umtiti has tested positive for Covid-19. The players is asymptomatic, is in good health and is isolating at home," a statement read.
The Club has informed the relevant sporting and health authorities as well as tracking all the people who have had contact with the player so that they can undergo the corresponding PCR tests."
Umtiti didn't travel with the team to Lisbon for the Champions League game against Bayern Munich as he has a knee problem.
Therefore, he has not been with the players that are in Portugal and there is no risk of contagion.
He becomes the second Barça player to test positive this week after Jean-Clair Todibo returned a positive result after returning for preseason.
