Barcelona coach Xavi: "This week will be key for summer signings"
Xavi is expecting to know in the coming days what Barça can do in the transfer market
FC Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández assessed the end of the LaLiga season after the 2-1 defeat against Celta Vigo and spoke about the future. He pointed out that this week "will be key" for the incorporation of players for next season.
Xavi stressed that "this week is definitive to know the scenario of what we can do (in the transfer market). We have to be fair and honest. We must reinforce well, especially (to compete at) European level. We have competed well in the domestic competitions, but the definitive step is to strengthen to fight for everything."
The coach insisted that LaLiga's financial fair-play rules will dictate Barcelona's policy. "Everything will depend on the scenario we are in. This week will be definitive for signings. We will try to make moves. It's a key week to know if we can strengthen."
Congratulates team
Despite wanting reinforcements, Xavi wanted to highlight the work of his players: "We have had a great season, I gave them a grade of B. We are also aware that we have to strengthen for what is required at Barça -- all the titles and to do better in Europe.
"We have to be more competitive. We need two players per position at a high level. We have made the most of this season's squad. We have to be satisfied."
Barça were champions weeks ago, so this final run of games will not determine the decisions to be made. "We have tried out a few positions. These last four games have not changed the planning," Xavi said.
Ansu Fati
Xavi also spoke about Ansu Fati, who scored against Celta, of whom he said that "I am happy with him. I give him a B. Ansu's season has been good, like everyone else's.
"I congratulated them before the game. They have all contributed and have been important at some point. They have scored, assisted... I can't say anything about what will happen. We are going to decide things this week."
